EDDIE "THE BEAST" HALL

Edward Stephen Hall, better known as Eddie “The Beast” Hall, is the 2017 World’s Strongest Man. His love for sport, particularly competitive sports, started in his teen years when he competed in National competitions in the UK, earning him four gold medals and one silver while setting two British records. His career began back in 2007 when Eddie entered his first Strongman competition. Having little experience or training, he still made the top 5, solidifying the direction in which he wanted to go in life. Over the years, he participated in numerous Strongman competitions, namely, England’s Strongest Man, UK’s Strongest Man, Giants Live and most importantly, qualifying for World’s Strongest Man.

His two proudest career moments are lifting a world record of 462 kg (1018.5 lbs.) in Melbourne, Australia, in front of his idol, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and being the first person in the world to lift 500 kg (1102 lbs.) in 2016. All of this led him to be awarded the title of World’s Strongest Man in 2017.

After moving on from Strongman, spending time with his family became a priority. Eddie is now focused on the next chapter of his life: building his social media empire, boasting over 9 million followers across all platforms, and focusing on upcoming film projects. He recently appeared in Expend4bles (2023) alongside Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, and more.

FINDING THE STORY

"Taming The Beast" began to take shape in late 2018, on the outskirts of London, after Co-Director Chris Fretwell was informed of a possible documentary focusing on the aftermath of Eddie Hall's victory as Strongest Man Alive in 2017. The encounter with Eddie Hall laid the groundwork for the team's five-year journey. For Fretwell, a dramatist by his own admission, the subject of a strongman documentary was uncharted territory. Co-Director Josias Tschanz, who joined the project later, encountered a similar unfamiliarity. Unfamiliar with the sport and Eddie's professional history, he found himself intrigued by another aspect of Eddie's life – his continuous struggle with mental health. Moved by the tale of a man perceived as unbeatable, who simultaneously carried the Strongest Man Alive title and battled mental health challenges, the necessity to explore this contrast became apparent.
